- Call to order- President Hollins
- Members self introductions- self intro by all members present.
- Ritual of the “Can”- The can was presented to President Hollins by Kaliher. Pres. Offered a toast and passed the can. Mekush is in possession of the can.
- Agenda presented- President Hollins presented, accepted.
- Previous meeting minutes- accepted
- Presidents report- President Hollins
- Vice Presidents report- VP Halas, the newly appointed Director of the Florida Fire Marshal’s Office, stated there is a more “user friendly” Florida State Fire College on the way.
- Treasurers Report- Kelly reported that we had just over $6,400 in the bank, and that we broke even on the heavy extrication class in June.
- Trustee’s report(s)- Saved for new business.
- Old Business-
2009 election report – Hollins reported on the lack of candidates for the open positions this year because people do not want to “run for office”. Hollins appointed Sec/Tres Kelly to replace Billy Smith, who completed his term. Hollins thanked all who responded to his request for help to fill Billy’s spot.
State Fire Marshal Director Appointment – Hollins announced the appointment of FL Director Halas.
Membership report- As of 08/29/2009 Sun Coast FOOLS have 141 paid members.
April FOOLS Bash report – Bercot reported on the events held at The Cock n’ Bull and that next year will be even better.
Fire Academy Scholarships 2009/2010- $300.00 was sent to the scholarship winners from the three academies. The Terry Farrell Fund kicked in extra for the Nokomis and MTI academies. It was discussed and accepted to up the amount to $500.00 per academy for 2010. $300.00 to best student and $200.00 to student to be determined.
There was much discussion on donations being requested without the representation of the requestor and or the support of the requesting parties. How many of the instructors are members of the Sun Coast FOOLS? The issuance of the future scholarships will be done at a FOOLS meeting or event. We will still participate in the preview to the class and the graduation, but the recipient will need to receive their money at our event.

2010 dues- to stay at $10.00
Honor Guard request- A request of donation was made by the Manatee County Honor Guard to the Sun Coast FOOLS. Membership voted on a $1,000.00 donation. There was much discussion about the lack of representation from the honor guard at the meeting and we will address this issue when future parties request a donation and fail to attend or support our organization. How many members of the new honor guard are members of the Sun Coast FOOLS?
Medical Relief Request – Hollins reported that a member was ill with a potentially life threatening disease. This member will remain anonymous at this time. Much discussion on setting the amounts that we provide to ill or deceased members. SCF’s Exec. Brd to address this. Members voted to donate $1,000.00 and passed the hat around and collected $390.00 more.
FDIC report- There were about 20 Sun Coast FOOLS at the 2009 event in Indianapolis. Attendance was down a bit in 2009, however, this is a great conference and all are encouraged to attend this career enhancing event if they can.
2009 “of the year” nominations- The Sun Coast chapter was nominated as Chapter of the year, as well as our President who was nominated for FOOL of the year. Neither took the honors, however being nominated is an honor.
June 2009 Extrication Class report- We broke even.
2010 class suggestions- Dave Dodsons Art of Reading Smoke (revisited), Pauly Capos When Things Go Bad, as well as Brunacini and Avillo were discussed.
2010 International Conference- To be held right down the street in ‘O’ Town.

12. Other business
- A Sun Coast FOOLS flag was discussed. More to come. T shirt, clock, and die cast engine were raffled off.
- A motion passed to purchase the new Florida LODD Flag for our chapter.

14. FOOL of the month- President Hollins received the honors once again for his work with the state to pass legislation on making commercial, industrial, or multi unit res. with lightweight trusses identifiable from the exterior.
